Ralara, while this is a good guide to ratting in some ways, it's a very poor guide in other ways. I do not believe that you can write a good ratting guide without telling people how to SURVIVE in 0.0. Off course you can point me to other guides that aim to do just that, but in my experience most of these guides are either completely outdated or very incomplete. It would be nice if you wrote your own guide to survival in 0.0 the way YOU see it. Hell, I might even PAY you for it if you do a good job.
I did mining and ratting in low sec and 0.0 systems, but the harsh reality of it is such that there's simply not a single guide I was able to find that helps...
1)I found, that many times, a player cant even get to 0.0 from empire space without getting popped on the way. It's as simple as that.
There's all kinds of advice on how to avoid gate camps, but in reality the campers are very clever and devious people, they have an interdictor in their gang most of the time, and they manage to pop me anyway.
If I cloak, they bump me with an interceptor. If I am too fast for them, they will just use smartbombs which will shake the screen violently, (or if effects are turned off) will still slow down the game to the crawl and own just about any ratting ship in a few seconds, sometimes even a split second. (and no I do not have a slow computer, my internet connection is fast, and yes, I always warp to zero)
So let me ask you this:
a)How the hell do you roll through interdicted gatecamps in a raven? ;)
b)How much of a big deal is it to you to lose 90+ million in 5 seconds?
c)How fast do you make this same amount of isk ratting?
2)Many people say that once you get to 0.0 space it's relatively easy to find a secluded empty system where you can rat in peace for at least few hours a day. In reality this is not so. There are people just about everywhere at all times. (in my experience at least) It seems that there is constantly someone out there out to get me. I cant be left alone even for an hour no matter where I go! At this point ratting is no longer enjoyable, it becomes a struggle filled with constant paranoia.
3)Logistics.
Correct me if I am wrong, but it's probably a good idea to go deep into 0.0 space to find that nice system where you can rat... But when you do that, you still have to go back to empire at some point to sell off your loot. At this point, there's yet again a pretty good chance you wont make it back in one peace. Assuming you do not have a second account to scout ahead, and no friends to help you, how do you deal with this issue?
I am sure that someone will come in now, and tell me to stay my carebear ass in empire space, but if I wanted to do that, I wouldn't be posting here. I am asking these questions so that I can learn to do things I don't know how to do.
